Alexander Gerst’s Earth timelapses

Watch Earth roll by through the perspective of ESA astronaut Alexander Gerst in this six-minute timelapse video from space. Combining 12 500 images taken by Alexander during his six-month Blue Dot mission on the International Space Station this Ultra High Definition video shows the best our beautiful planet has to offer.

Hyperlapse: Smooth Operator

Timelapse videos are cool… they help accelerate things that would otherwise take a long time and/or be boring to watch (for example, SF to Paris timelapse). But sometimes speeding up raw video footage can cause a headache. Speeding up video footage can accentuate all of the minor camera shakiness and unsteadiness, and lead to a rather unpleasant video.

Research out of Microsoft aims to correct this with Hyperlapse- basically, a method to smooth out all the shakiness and bumpiness of timelapse video. This has been especially useful for first-person video footage (like using a Go-Pro). Check it out!
