The strange assumption is that scientists are above this type of behaviour. That their calling somehow exempts them from human failings.
For some time this view prevailed regarding ministers and priests but child abuse scandals have proved us wrong.
Recently Buddhist monks have been shown to be obese ; once again dispelling the idea that some groups of humanity are better than others.
When I was a boy the word doctor was almost sacred , men and women were judged by their calling.
Slowly but surely we are learning that underneath all labels and fancy names lies human nature.

This is disappointing. It was such a pleasure for me to follow CERN’s search for and discovery of the Higgs field.
